Day 4: Your Favorite Book.

This is a really tough one because in all honesty, I don’t read all that much. But I did just finish Walter Kirn’s Up in the Air, and it’s as brilliant as everyone says it is. Super sharp dialogue and a really brilliant plot. I highly recommend it.

Day 3: Your Favorite TV Show.

This one was too hard, so I cheated and I’m calling it a 3-way tie.

Arrested Development was the funniest, smartest, and most detail-oriented sitcom ever. The characters were all brilliant and the dialogue (and narration) were all sharp as hell. It’s too bad it got cancelled, but the writers managed to wrap it up really nicely without feeling forced after three seasons. Perhaps it’s for the best.

30 Rock is the second coming of Arrested Development. It’s just as brilliantly written, and although the comedy style is way different (not just from Arrested, but really from anything else on television) it still manages to feel familiar. It’s the smartest and funniest show on television right now, and although The Office sometimes comes close, it’s really leagues ahead of everything else on TV.

Finally, Lost. Do I even need to explain this? It’s the best-written drama on television. Not only that, but it’s in many ways a bit of a success story too. Think about it: It’s a show about a bunch of castaways lost on a magic island, and the show explores every different medium of time-travel, references tons of hardly-known science fiction works, tackles tough philosophical and religious issues, and manages to work in brilliant dialogue and the best character development we’ve ever seen in a television show. It’s a no-brainer.

Day 2: Your Favorite Movie

This is easy. (500) Days of Summer is essentially a perfect film. Amazing acting, brilliantly written and directed, beautifully shot, and the greatest soundtrack in the history of film.

Day 1: Your Favorite Song

Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) by The White Stripes

Picking just one favorite song is ridiculously hard. My favorite song changes with every month, every week, and every day. I have favorite “songs of the moment”, but that’s not really what this is asking for.

The closest thing I have to a favorite song is Forever For Her. Every time I listen to it, I feel like I’m getting just a little bit more out of it… like that bag of chips where you keep finding chips inside long after you were sure you had eaten the last one. The lyrics in this song are beautiful, and Jack and Meg really put their soul into the performance that went onto the album. It’s a perfect White Stripes song, especially because it’s unlike anything else the White Stripes have done. Favorite band, favorite song.

I really don’t post enough.

Maybe I should try doing that crazy awesome “Tumblr Challenge” thing so many of you are doing these days.

Hm.

EDIT: Okay, I caved. I’m gonna do it. Day one in a few minutes.
